Album Notes
Based in blues and bebop, the late tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine was one of the prominent figures in soul-jazz, his big, assertive tone swinging both hot and cool. This BEST OF collection covers the man's Blue Note years (1960-64 and a selection from 1984) in the context of cooking trios with organist Shirley Scott and the Three Sounds to a big band directed by Oliver Nelson. Like most Best Of collections, this is for the casual and/or new fan who wants a crash course in Turrentine, and if for nothing else, it delivers the goods.
Guaranteed to play perfectly.
