Album Notes
Personnel: David Becker (guitar); T. Lavitz (keyboards); Tom Lilly (fretless bass); Bruce Becker (drums); Brad Dutz (percussion). With In Motion, guitarist David Becker unveiled a new edition of his David Becker Tribune. Sibling Bruce Becker was still on drums, but the guitarist had newcomer Tom Lilly on electric bass instead of Bob Mair. What didn't change considerably was the sound of the band. Becker still favored a style of fusion that was melodic and lyrical, yet had much more of an edge than the fluffy instrumental pop that was being wrongly described as smooth jazz. Pat Metheny's influence asserts itself on "Forgotten Friends," "Westward Ho" and other selections, but thankfully, Becker is his own man and never lets his appreciation of the celebrated guitarist turn him into a clone. The only song on the CD that wasn't written by Becker & Co. is McCoy Tyner's "Passion Dance," which has usually been heard as acoustic post-bop but works quite well in an electric setting. It's too bad that neither Third Time Around nor In Motion made Becker a really big name in fusion. ~ Alex Henderson

Guaranteed to play perfectly.
